The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, officiated at the topping-out ceremony for Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) Wai Ming Block (New Ambulatory and Rehabilitation Block) on 11 April 2013. The CMC redevelopment project comprises a new ambulatory/rehabilitation block with a construction floor area of 54,500 square metres and the provision of a rehabilitation garden to cope with the increasing demand for healthcare services in the district.

In his welcoming address, the Hospital Authority Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu, said, "The Wai Ming Block mainly provides ambulatory and rehabilitation services, which will effectively soothe the need for acute hospitalisation. This is in line with the direction of developing modernised healthcare services. The new block provides ample space and a comfortable environment which will enhance treatment progress for patients undergoing rehabilitation. With additional resources at CMC, overall healthcare services for the district will be further enhanced to benefit the residents of Sham Shui Po District."

Caritas Medical Centre opened in 1964. To cope with the ever-rising aging and growing population the Phase 1 Redevelopment Project was completed in 2002. The Finance Committee of the Legislative Council approved funding of HK$1,719.6 million for the Phase 2 Redevelopment Project in 2007. The Phase 2 New Ambulatory and Rehabilitation Block was completed in 2013.
