MAIN LIBRARY EXTENSION, THE UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG, Hong Kong

1990

The 8-storey extension, with a GFA of 15,000 s.m. forms the main part of the University library including a new entrance lobby. It features wide spans and open plan floors arranged on modules to suit bookstack spacing. It is linked to the existing library from ground floor to fourth floor, while the three lower ground floors house eight lecture rooms and a 350 seat lecture theater.

The extension satisfied the need for additional floor space for the library due to additional student intake. At the same time it provides a new access road behind the Main Building for access to the library. Opportunity was also taken to stabilize an area of slopes behind the Main Building.
