THE MURRAY, Hong Kong

2018

The revitalization of the Murray Building is under the Government’s Conversing Central Initiative, announced in the 2009-2010 Policy Address.

This project is the revitalization of this former government office, completed in 1969, into a prestigious hotel with 336 guestrooms, a swimming pool, ballrooms, fitness centre and a number of specialty restaurants. The development has a total GFA of about 31,000s.m.

The iconic grid facade of recessed windows of tower, together with the signature arches at the tower base and the elevated driveway from Cotton Tree Drive which intricately wraps around the building behind the arches are preserved. The podium deck was demolished and reconstructed into the new hotel entrance. The 4-storey high arches are liberated through the voids at podium. 2 new pavilion structures are added at the podium and the roof to house restaurants and a rooftop bar. One central aim of the project was to reconnect the building with the city at ground level and enhance the landscaped grounds.

The Old and Valuable Tree (OVT) within the site (Cassia javanica var. indochinensis 節果決明) is also successfully preserved in-situ.
