WORLDWIDE HOUSE, Hong Kong

1980

In the case of Worldwide House, the site is located above the concourse of the MTR Central Station so that the tower location and disposition and even the column positions have been predetermined leaving little room for change. The original tower envisaged for the site was a rectangle with rounded corners diagonally opposite each other. Within these tight constraints and the preference of the Client for regular shaped offices, the floor plate adopted was in the form of two overlapping squares which is reflected in the building form as two interlocking towers of different heights.

MTR access points are provided within the sites of both Wheelock and Worldwide House at ground level. These lead to the basement concourse which acts as an underground pedestrian circulation level connecting a number of the key buildings in the central business district.
